Sustainability

Responsible Procurement

Responsible sourcing means paying attention to what we buy beyond the more traditional aspects such as costs, quality and delivery times. This is one of the strategic objectives for our supply chain operations, and it means that we consider ethics, workers’ rights, social and environmental issues when purchasing products and services across all purchasing categories and regional groups.

FMDI respects the Human Rights of Employees and local communities and is committed to promoting these principles with its Suppliers by identifying and managing the environmental, social and economic impacts within the supply chain and committing to purchase sustainable materials, goods and services, ethical and responsible. More specifically, we will try to avoid a negative social and environmental impact in the supply chain, to reduce the environmental impact deriving from the activities / operations related to the services through the purchase of products that comply with recognized environmental standards.

The sustainable sourcing practices in which FMDI is engaged at all levels within its organization are as follows:

  • Purchase of goods and use of services in line with international principles aimed at promoting and protecting Human Rights recognized by the principles of the Global Compact of the United Nations and defined by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Declaration of the International Labour Organization (ILO) on fundamental principles and rights at work, the provision on transparency in the supply chain contained in the Modern Slavery Act and the Conflict Minerals Regulation for anyone involved in our supply chain.
  • Inclusion of sustainability criteria as part of our supplier and contractor evaluation process.
  • Application of environmental and safety legislation on procurement, including international obligations on climate change and development sustainable such as the reduction of CO² emissions and the protection of biodiversity.
  • Give priority to Suppliers who have incorporated ethical and sustainable practices within of their organization and also pursue them within their supply chain.
  • Promote a level of awareness of sustainability among supply chain partners and encourage them to adopt sustainable practices.
  • Purchase goods and services, which reflect environmental specifications or standards minimum recognized in order to pursue the continuous improvement of our procurement practices.
  • Avoid using products potentially harmful to the environment when a less harmful alternative is available.
  • Use products that have a minimal impact on the environment, both local and global. Factors taken into consideration will include the sustainability of resource production, transport, energy used, consumption of raw materials, production of waste and the percentage of recycled content or a high recyclability factor.
  • Reduce the impact of deliveries and facilitate the procurement of materials, products and services from local markets.
  • Where possible, consume and buy less by identifying and eliminating wasteful practices within our operations and those in which we have influence.
  • Recycle materials at the end of their life cycle, where possible and where it is not possible to ensure disposal in the most environmentally friendly way correct.

FMDI will regularly monitor the implementation of the commitments sustainable sourcing and ethical standards in order to identify trends e ensure that environmental and social factors are taken into account in the decisions of purchase.

This Policy integrates and collects all the aspects related to Human Rights contained also in other FMDI Policies and Guidelines.
